The story of King Ralph

If you’ve already headed down to Dean Steet to visit us at Grasso, then you may have noticed the oil painting of King Ralph, who served as Admiral of the Fleet in the late 1700’s.

King Ralph

The story goes that during his time at sea he would experiment with mixing different drinks, and then one day, he finally settled on his favourite.

This became known as ‘The King Ralph’.

It’s quite a simple cocktail to make, and requires equal measures of Disaronno and Jack Daniel’s, with a dash of orange bitters, a splash of Coke (full fat, not the sugar free stuff) and a nice slice of a big juicy orange.

We’ve had the King Ralph on the menu since opening, and it’s gone down a treat.

However, the interesting thing is King Ralph’s uncanny resemblance to my own brother, Ralph (below), who’s also partial to a King Ralph himself!

And it’s Ralph’s birthday this Sunday, so please join me in wishing him a wonderful day.

In the other news, we’ve had quite a big week at Grasso, with visits from some of the UK’s biggest food influencers, including Eating With Tod / Toby Inskip, Aton Of Food / Anton Clark, and Brandiece Heal, so a thanks to them, and a big shout out to the new followers — we look forward to seeing you over at Grasso soon!

Ciao for now,

Seanie Grasso
